(Artikelnr: ROM-026-151)
Philip II. As Caesar, AD 244-247. AR Antoninianus 23mm, 3.80 g. Rome mint. Struck AD 246. Radiate and draped bust right / Philip II standing left, holding globe and reversed spear. RIC IV 218d. Extremely Fine.

Philip II, son of Philip the Arab, was named Caesar in AD 244 and later Augustus. His brief reign coincided with Rome’s millennium festivities, celebrated through specially issued coins featuring animals, games, and religious symbols. Often depicted as a youthful ruler in his coinage, Philip II was likely killed alongside his father during the revolt of Trajan Decius.
